When Shreya Ballal’s parents were forced to move out of their home in Satara and live on the outskirts of the city, this 7th standard student had to walk four kilometers each way to get to school. Not surprisingly, she would be exhausted by the time she got home and found it challenging to keep up with her schoolwork. Nonetheless, she remained an excellent student, always at the top of her class. She is adored by her classmates and teachers alike, and hopes to attend university someday.
Having a bicycle is hugely helpful. Shreya is relaxed when she comes home and is now working even harder! In fact, her mother, Ashwini, who spent a considerable part of her day walking Shreya and her little brother back and forth from school now has some free time and is planning on working to supplement the family income.
