Seema Angad Gavli

March 2018

Seema Gavli was never able to finish her education. Married when she was very young, she moved to Satara with her husband.

Since her husband’s income was barely enough to make ends meet, Seema was keen to do something that would help her family. She decided to start her own soap and incense business. However, running the business was very challenging.

Fortunately, Seema heard about Mann Deshi a few years ago and decided to enroll in its Business School.  Her confidence grew as she learnt new and practical ways to tackle her various business problems. She even enrolled in the Mann Deshi Chambers of Commerce where she learned to hone her marketing skills. She also became more aware of her rights as a woman entrepreneur.

Slowly, Seema’s business began to flourish. She started to document and computerise her transactions, which helped her manage and plan her finances better. Her newfound marketing skills ensured that she was able to significantly grow her customer base - expanding well beyond Satara to neighbouring towns.

She now has six female employees and has taken a Rs. 400,000 vehicle loan so she can reduce transportation costs. Her income has increased by Rs. 300,000 and she feels an immense sense of pride as she says her family and friends now seek out her opinions and think very highly of her.
